5 Questions to Ask Before Booking Your Wedding Venue – Part One

Congratulations—you’re officially engaged! This is such an exciting milestone, but it also comes with what can feel like an endless stream of questions from family and friends.

When’s the wedding? Who’s invited? What are your colors? Have you picked a venue yet?

Meanwhile, you’re just beginning to process one of the biggest moments of your life.

Here are 10 important questions to ask before booking your wedding venue.

1. What Is Your Payment Schedule?

Before booking your venue, ask for the complete payment schedule. Some venues require a large, non-refundable deposit, while others have multiple payments due throughout the planning process.

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, booking requires a signed contract and a deposit of your venue fee.

Our payment schedule is simple:

  • Signed contract and venue fee deposit to reserve your date
  • 180 days before your wedding: 50% of your remaining balance is due
  • 90 days before your wedding: Final balance, menu selections, bar selections, and estimated guest count are due
  • After this point, you’re welcome to add guests, but guest counts cannot be reduced
  • 30 days before your wedding: Final opportunity to increase your guest count

Understanding the payment schedule upfront helps you budget and avoid surprises.

2. What Is Included in the Venue Rental?

Every venue is different. A lower rental fee may come with high food and beverage minimums, while other venues are simply an empty space that requires extensive rentals.

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, we like to keep things simple. Your venue rental includes:

  • Four-hour venue rental
  • Tables
  • Chairs
  • Silverware
  • Plates
  • Napkins
  •  furniture
  • Venue Coordination

Knowing what’s included can save you thousands in additional rental costs.

3. Are There Any Food and Beverage Minimums?

Many venues have food and beverage minimums to help offset a lower rental fee.

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, we do not have food and beverage minimums. However, we do require couples to use our in-house culinary team and beverage service to ensure a seamless experience.

4. What Is Not Included?

This may be one of the most important questions you ask during your venue tour.

Hidden fees and additional rental requirements can quickly increase your wedding budget. Ask what items you’ll need to provide yourself and what previous couples have commonly rented.

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, venue rentals do not include:

  • Table linens (our beautiful mahogany tables are designed to be displayed without linens)
  • Florals
  • Ceremony chairs

Knowing these details ahead of time makes planning much easier.

5. What Is the Maximum Capacity?

This should be one of the first questions you ask during any venue inquiry.

Be sure to clarify the difference between standing capacity and seated capacity, as they are often very different.

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, we can accommodate:

  • Up to 180 guests for a standing cocktail-style reception
  • Up to 100 seated guests indoors
  • An additional 50 seated guests on our porch, weather permitting

Choosing a venue that comfortably fits your guest list ensures everyone has an enjoyable experience.
