Part 2: 5 Questions to Ask Before Booking Your Wedding Venue

After hosting countless weddings, we’ve noticed a few common mistakes couples make during the venue selection process. Asking the right questions before signing a contract can help you make the best decision for you and your partner.

1. How Long Is the Venue Rental?

Don’t assume your rental time includes setup and breakdown.

Ask about:

  • Vendor access times
  • Setup hours
  • Breakdown time
  • Actual event hours

These are often separate from your rental period.

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, vendors receive:

  • Three hours before the event for setup
  • One hour after the event for breakdown

Our standard venue rental includes four hours of event time. However you are welcome to add on hours.

2. What Type of Music and Entertainment Is Allowed?

Whether you’re hiring a DJ, live band, or acoustic musician, it’s important to understand your venue’s entertainment policies.

Be sure to ask:

  • Where entertainers can set up
  • Whether electrical access is available
  • If there are any sound restrictions
  • Whether there is a noise ordinance

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, our local noise ordinance requires music to conclude by 10:00 p.m. We also allow live bands of up to a three piece musicians.

3. Can I Bring My Own Caterer?

Before booking a caterer, confirm whether your venue allows outside catering.

Many venues have a local list of preferred caterers while others may require you to use their in-house culinary team.

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, all food is prepared by our talented in-house catering team, who can customize menus to fit your vision and accommodate dietary needs.

4. Do You Require a Wedding Planner?

Some venues require at least a licensed day-of coordinator, while others require full-service planning.

Be sure to ask what level of planning is required before booking.

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, we require all weddings and rehearsal dinners to have a licensed, insured full-service wedding planner to ensure every event runs smoothly from start to finish.

5. What Is Your Rain Plan?

No one wants to imagine rain on their wedding day, but it’s one of the most important questions you can ask.

Some venues require you to reserve a tent as a backup plan, while others have indoor alternatives.

At The Daniel Island Yacht Club, if you’re planning a cocktail hour on our dock, the first floor  Rowdy Bar serves as the built-in rain backup location.

If you’re planning your ceremony in The Grove, we do require couples to reserve a tent in case of inclement weather.

Having a solid backup plan allows you to enjoy your day with confidence—rain or shine.
